The HOPE project’s Handbook is a comprehensive resource divided into two main parts: a narrative research section and a practical workshop module. The research portion examines six historical periods of peace and prosperity, including the Neolithic Starčevo and Vinča cultures, the Cycladic and Minoan civilizations, Roman Doclea, and 1970s Yugoslavia/Kosovo. These examples, though spanning different times and regions, share key characteristics such as nurtured coexistence, egalitarianism, and significant advancements in trade, art, and innovation. By highlighting these eras, the Handbook demonstrates how societies thrived when prioritizing peace over conflict, offering a counter-narrative to traditional histories dominated by war and struggle. The second part of the Handbook features 16 theatre-based workshops inspired by these peaceful civilizations. Using engaging theatrical techniques, these workshops aim to teach young participants the values of cooperation, creativity, and solidarity, embodying the lessons of positive peace. Through this combination of historical research and interactive learning, the Handbook serves as a tool to inspire future generations to build a more harmonious and just world, rooted in the principles of positive peace.
